Peter Pan Goes Wrong - Melbourne

Event Date: 19/12/2018, 07:00 pm

THE IRRESISTIBLY FUNNY SHOW THAT WILL HAVE YOU HOLDING YOUR SIDES WITH LAUGHTER.
Following hot on the wobbly heels of the box office hit The Play That Goes Wrong, Mischief Theatre brings its triumphant disaster Peter Pan Goes Wrong from London’s West End to Australia, stumbling into Melbourne on 19 December, then Brisbane from 30 January, Canberra from 6 February, Sydney from 13 February and Perth from 7 March.

Nominated for an Olivier Award for Best New Comedy, Peter Pan Goes Wrong turns the J.M. Barrie classic, Peter Pan, into ‘a joyous masterclass of physical comedy and general disaster’ (London Evening Standard). Once again, the much-loved members of the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society battle against technical hitches, flying mishaps and cast disputes with hilarious and disastrous results. Will they ever make it to Neverland?

Leading the cast of incredibly talented actors is JAY LAGA’AIA.

A Choral Christmas Celebration

Event Date: 14/12/2018, 11:00 am

A Concert featuring the St. Mary’s Cathedral Choir and Sinfonia Australis
In two concerts on Friday 14 December St Mary’s Cathedral will resound with exquisite Christmas music performed by the St. Mary’s Cathedral Choir and Sinfonia Australis. With choral works by Bach, Handel, Bruckner and Rutter, and a feast of favourite Christmas Carols, this concert is the ideal introduction to the Christmas Season.

Year after year sell-out crowds have been delighted by this traditional Christmas experience which sees the world-famous Choir, orchestra and celebrity readers offer glorious music and verse sure to fill every heart with Christmas cheer.

Ticket sales for the two performances of A Choral Christmas Celebration are now on sale.

Celebrating its 200th anniversary this year, St Mary’s Cathedral Choir is acknowledged as the oldest musical ensemble in Australia, tracing its origins to 1818. Twenty-four boy choristers sing with twelve professional adult singers to make up Australia’s only fully-professional Cathedral Choir.

In addition to providing music for over 500 church services in the Cathedral each year, the St Mary’s Cathedral Choir has recently given several concert performances to critical acclaim including a widely-praised performance of Monteverdi’s Vespers in collaboration with The Song Company and the Orchestra of the Antipodes. In 2018, the Choir performed in the International Gregorian Chant Festival in Watou, Belgium, and also performed for His Holiness, Pope Francis in Rome.

Thomas Wilson, Director of Music of the St. Mary’s Cathedral Choir promises a programme of new and old choral works and all the treasured favourite carols. “There is nothing like the traditional Christmas experience: choristers singing beautiful music in such an inspiring building at this special time of year. What a great way to start Christmas.” said Thomas Wilson.

A Baroque Christmas - Melbourne

Event Date: 08/12/2018, 03:00 pm

Magnificent! Transporting! Phenomenal!” - Schwäbische Zeitung
The Australian Chamber Choir is set to thrill audiences in Sydney and Melbourne this Christmas season
with a program of Baroque ‘hits’ to bring seasonal joy to music lovers of all tastes.

Starting in Sydney 24 November in the atmospheric locale and spectacular acoustic of St Mary’s Cathedral Crypt, the choir continues with four performances in Victoria. At St Andrew’s in Brighton on 8 December,
the audience can experience the results of an acoustic refurbishment that makes heavenly voices sound truly celestial!

In Europe across the centuries, Christmas has been a time when serious composers would compete
to write music with the maximum popular appeal for adults and children alike.
This program represents a “pick of the pops” by the Australian Chamber Choir’s director, Douglas Lawrence:
Bach (In dulci jubilo, Singet dem Herren, O Jesulein süss), Gabrieli, Praetorius, Sweelinck, Schütz and Scheidt.
Douglas Lawrence OAM, a world-class organist, established the ACC in 2007. In its young life, the Choir has already toured Europe six times, giving some hundred concerts to rapturous sell-out audiences and winning unqualified critical acclaim.
With a reputation for its “lucidly articulated” performances of Bach’s Motets, the choir has performed several times in Bach’s church, St Thomas’, Leipzig, including in the Bach Organ Festival.
In 2015, it was hailed in the Danish press under the heading “Australian Choir in the Super League”
and recognized as an honorary life member of Denmark’s oldest classical music festival, the Sorø International.

CRANSTON CUP Grand Final

Event Date: 02/12/2018, 06:00 pm

Australia's ultimate comedy smack-down!
For over thirty years, the start of the Sydney summer has been marked by the biggest improvised comedy show in Australia.
Six teams of the fastest, finest and funniest improvisers in the country, pit their wits against each other to get their hands on the biggest, ugliest, most prized trophy in competitive comedy… the two metre-high Cranston Cup.

After months of no-holds barred competition, the FA-Cup-style knock-out comp, directed by Theatresports champion Maddie Parker, comes to a head on Sunday 2 December at the Enmore Theatre.

Born of humble beginnings in 1985, this wildly popular ‘cult’ impro-comedy show now attracts performers from around the nation and has helped launch the careers of a multitude of well-known actors, comics and comedy writer including Julia Zemiro, Shaun Micallef,
Andrew Denton, Susie Youssef, Steen Raskopoulos, Andrew O’Keefe, Adam Spencer, Ed Kavalee and Rob Carlton.

This year is no different, and features both veteran players and the freshest of comedy faces
including champion high school and university teams who have fought their way through the qualifying rounds!

Already confirmed for the final are Mission Improvable 3 (Elliot Ulm, Jestika Chand & Rachael Colquhoun-Fairweather) and PG13, the intermediate high school team from Newington College – the first ever school team to make a Cranston Grand!
