Concert of Sydney Gay and Lesbian Choir
Just before it packs its suitcases and leaves home for a major international tour to northern Europe, Sydney Gay & Lesbian Choir is presenting a farewell concert which reflects on the meaning of home for LGBTQI people around the world.

This concert will showcase the incredible versatility of the choir which can switch from beautiful ballads about love and marriage, to contemporary Australian compositions to rollicking pop songs.

Every Second by one of the country’s most daring and witty playwrights, Vanessa Bates.

Every Second tells the story of two thirty-something couples desperate to have children. They’ve given up sushi and champagne, as well as their sanity.
Both couples discover conception is not as easy as they once thought and assume they’re impervious to the stress of infertility… both couples are wrong.

Performed in brightly coloured costumes in the neo-Gothic splendour of the banner-decorated Great Hall, the exotic and authentic plucked, blown, bowed and percussion early instruments will include harp, psaltery, mandora, gittern, ud, diwan saz, sinfonye, rebecs, vielles, shawms, lur, gemshorns, douçaine, whistles, portative organ, duct flute, tapans, dairehs, darabukka, castanets, tambourines, zils, handbells and more!

New 2014 program of mediaeval European music and poetry on Saturday 28th June at 7pm and Sunday 29th June at 3pm in the magnificent Great Hall of The University of Sydney.

Teacher and student in sexual harassment drama
Professional Australian actor and teacher Jerome Pride (Bell Shakespeare, MTC) teams up with highly gifted student actress Grace O'Connell to perform Mamet’s controversial play about sexual exploitation, gender and power in a limited Sydney season ahead of their tour to the Edinburgh Festival.

Oleanna exposes the power struggle between a male university professor and one of his female students who accuses him of sexual exploitation, threatening his career. It is a play about gender, sex, power, prejudice, and perception. The real-life teacher/student relationship between the actors (never before attempted with this award-winning play) adds an explosive edge to a story that is already timely and relevant.

“Dark is life; dark is death”

From the opening cackles and guffaws of its first drinking song to its final merging of the soul with the infinite universe, Mahler’s Song of the Earth (Das Lied von der Erde) contains some of his greatest music and is often considered his greatest work.
Using Chinese poems and Chinese musical elements, this symphonic cycle of six songs is unlike any other work in Western music.

Two singers carry this magnificent work.
We are joined by Nicole Youl (mezzo soprano) and Martin Buckingham (tenor). One of Australia’s greatest operatic and concert sopranos, Nicole Youl is embarking on her next venture – becoming a mezzo soprano – and we are privileged to join her in that journey.Martin Buckingham is a Principal Artist with Opera Australia and a rising star.

Join Maestro Sadaharu Muramatsu and Strathfield Symphony Orchestra as they explore this rarely heard masterpiece with these fine artists. Sibelius’ early Karelia Suite rounds out this thrilling program.
