Founded in 1984 by the late Barbara Robinson & Barbara Cran – both much-loved local teachers and KPO players – the competition offers local secondary school students the chance to perform a concerto with this acclaimed community orchestra, led by its outstanding Artistic Director, composer, conductor and educator, Paul Terracini (pictured below right and attached).
The competition has become a highly-regarded state-wide contest with hundreds of entrants annually competing for rich prizes.
This years’ Junior finalists - who won their way through heat and semi-final rounds - are:
• Newington trumpeter Jade Park (in Year 11 at St Andrews Cathedral School;
• Marsfield clarinettist Raymond Wang (Year 9, Sydney Grammar); and
• Croydon violinist David Lin (Year 7, Trinity Grammar)
The Senior finalists are:
• Wahroonga violinist Isabella Sun (Year 10, Abbotsleigh);
• Carlingford cellist Gabrielle Zhong (Year 11, Pymble Ladies’ College); and
• Randwick bassoonist Milo Abrahams (Year 11, Sydney Grammar).
