Celebrity, hair-removal and rock’n’roll motherhood…
NEWSFLASH! Comedian, singer and ex-nurse Alli Butler has given up the day job she didn’t have to pursue becoming a 40-Year-Old Popstar.

And that – conveniently - is also the title of her show, playing at the SYDNEY FRINGE FESTIVAL 6-10 September in the Boom Boom Room at the Emerging Artist Sharehouse in Erskineville.

Having already left her night job—which she did have— as the Sydney Opera House nurse, where she tended the headaches, depressed rants and ingrown toenails of international superstars, Butler has decided being a celeb looks a whole lot brighter than looking after one.

“I waved my sphygmomanometer goodbye and embarked on a pop career of my own,” said Butler.

Never mind being 40. Never mind she refuses to do botox (yet…) — and never mind she’s flown from WA
to launch this new phase of her career from her flat in ‘show-your-bottom Bondi’ where everyone is a star already.

40 Year Old Pop Star - a standout, stand-up comedy - sold out in multiple venues at Perth’s 2020 Fringeworld,
and in regional venues across WA in a subsequent tour.
Now it’s Sydney’s turn!

Internationally renowned performer Roymata Holmes explores gender-fluidity in a performance. It follows Roymata’s world premiere performance, which saw him perform to sold-out crowds at the Anywhere Arts Festival 2021.
 
I Am King I Am Queen 2.0 is an autobiographical PERFORMANCE. Written and performed by Queer artist Roymata Holmes (he/they). A story written to showcase and celebrate the LGBTQIA+ and Pasefika community, and we will ensure this remains a safe space for ALL.
 
“I cannot wait to share what we’ve been creating for you! We’ve been through a lot the last couple of years and now it’s time to catch up and celebrate!”

Roymata shows it’s about the journey, not the destination. This coming-of-age extravaganza is a high-energy night of traditional and modern dance, physical theatre, and the quickest Drag transformation you've ever seen!

This critically acclaimed theatrical masterpiece stars Julia Hales: actor, daughter, dreamer and person with Down syndrome. Equal parts thought-provoking, funny, enlightening and effervescent, this Black Swan production burrows right to the heart of the stuff that makes up a community, a relationship, and a life.
The moving performance of monologues, video, scenes, dance and song stars Hales and a cast of six Western Australian actors who put their own lives on stage, showcasing their deeply personal experiences and day-to-day reality of Down syndrome. Together, they create a beautiful and heartfelt portrait of friendship on a replica set of Home and Away’s famous diner at Summer Bay – so Hales can finally be in the show.
