Opera Bites returns to the exquisite Empire Hotel in Annandale, this time with "The History of Opera". Come on a dynamic time-travelling odyssey with Opera Bites! Join us as we travel through the history of Opera in its entirety from 1600 to the present day - in just 90 minutes! Expect to hear your favourites, un-earth some new ones, come across familiar composers and strangers, laugh, cry and learn! Fully costumed and served up in typical Opera Bites style.

TECHNICOLOR LIFE vividly explores through the female gaze how families cope when a wounded soldier attempts re-entry into ‘civilian life’.

Billie, a young Iraq War soldier, loses her left hand and is sent home. Her book smart teenage sister, Maxine, with the help of her new imaginary friends, Lorelei Lee and Dorothy Shaw, and her mother, Susan attempt to help Billie, but she refuses to talk about her war experience. When grandmother, Franny moves into the household with her twenty wigs, love for American musicals, wine coolers, and cigarettes, she has plan for a good-bye party that threatens to tear the family even further apart.

This isn't your average "Scottish Play":


Through the live performance drawing of E. Strange and her cauldron, the audience is immersed in our world as, by magic, the set for each scene is uniquely created and shaped for every performance.
This allows the 'set image' to at once evoke an actual place and also to enforce the images of the play.
While presenting the Shakespearian text, some controversial decisions have been made - the 3 witches are not evil hags, but 3 very different sibylline creatures, who pass on information yet fight each other over what the outcome should be. Our production shows powerful attractive women with blood on their hands and passion in their hearts - not diabolical entities shaping the world of the play for their own evil gain - These ladies are far more complicated than that - and "evil gain" may not be what they're fighting for.

Led by the conductor Zhou Wen, over 40 talented musicians will play a series of famous Chinese music.

In a unique display unlike any other orchestral performance, the internationally acclaimed Hubei Chime Bells National Chinese Orchestra brings The Imperial Bells of China - Chimes in Concert to Australia.

Together with Bianqing (stone-chime) and other ancient instruments, like se, chi, drum and banjo, chime bells are the earliest twelve-tone equal temperament instruments in the world and have major cultural and historical values.

Led by the conductor Zhou Wen, over 40 talented musicians will play a series of famous Chinese music at the concerts. The use of the precise replicas of these ancient Chinese bells creates an authentic melodious timbre sound. The grand occasion of the Chinese palace symphony orchestra will be recreated and the ancient Jingchu people’s artistic lifestyle will be reproduced on stage.

Not only is the sound of the bells filled with romantic and sonorous melodies but they are also visually breathtaking due to their grand scale and elaborate cast technique. The Imperial of China represents a ritual in China’s outbound cultural exchanges, it has been performed in front of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Egyptian Present Abdel Fattah, the king and queen of Belgium and many more during the official visits and all across 57 countries and regions for more than 1000 times.

For one show only on 23 July at Sydney Opera House.
