Beethoven - Moonlight Sonata

Event Date: 08/11/2015, 03:00 pm

Resonance presents Beethoven's 'Moonlight' sonata
Resonance ends its 2015 series with a programme featuring two of the greatest works ever conceived for the piano, performed by artistic director Chris Cartner.

Beethoven marked his op.27 no.2 sonata as a “fantasy”. The haunting effects of its opening movement have earned its “Moonlight” nickname, yet its playful second movement and violently dramatic finale remind us of the exceptional power of Beethoven’s music.
Chopin’s Sonata in B minor was his last major work before his tragically early death. It is within this sonata that we hear the absolute pinnacle of piano composition. The brilliance and depth of the writing lie within its glorious melodies and staggering development of themes. The sonata is a legacy of perhaps the greatest piano-composer of all time.

Complimentary drinks to be served in the beautiful grounds following the concert.

A Victorian murder mystery! Preview performance!
A Victorian murder mystery at Sydney's newest independent theatre - The Old 505 Theatre

"Easter, 1900. A killer is on the loose, having just claimed another pair of victims.
In the ensuing quest to find out whodunit, from both the constabulary and the amateur alike, a number of colourful characters have their motives, intent and alibis examined closely: the carnival's resident fortune teller, light on cash and literacy; a young well-to-do man, running from something dubious in his recent past; a woman of the night, fast running out options; and another gent looking decidedly...dusty."

A play with songs, Dot Dot Dot is the latest offering from Sydney theatre stalwart Drew Fairley featuring a stellar cast, and directed by Old 505 Theatre Associate Artistic Director Gareth Boylan.

Writer / Designer / Musical Director: Drew Fairley
Lighting Designer: Ben Brockman

GYPSY The Musical

Event Date: 30/10/2015, 07:30 pm

Proudly presented by the Hornsby Musical Society
Hornsby Musical Society INC has been operating since 1958 and provides an avenue for our extremely talented (Sydneysider) cast to polish and display their acting, dancing and singing skills to the public.

There is another story that sits behind Gypsy. One that is close to my own heart. This is the story of theatre and the stage. This is a musical about the last years of Vaudeville.
It is about a theatre form that had thrived during the 1920s and early 1930s. Vaudeville allowed a variety of performers to showcase their talents and make a decent living. It is this story that has always fascinated me.
It is from the stages and acts of Vaudeville where Musical Theatre found its origins to become one of the most popular and engaging theatre styles today.

This production of Gypsy is a salute to Vaudeville, and all theatre that has come before us and to the performers who have left a wonderful legacy on the stage. Our aim was to create a show that will entertain our audiences. Gypsy Rose Lee and Mama Rose would be proud of what the production team, cast and crew have worked so hard to create on our very own stage here at Hornsby RSL.

GYPSY a Musical Fable. BOOK BY Arthur Laurents MUSIC BY Jule Styne, LYRICS BY Stephen Sondheim (Suggested by memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee.

Original Production by David Merrick & Leylan Hayward. Entire production originally directed and choreographed by Jerome Robbins

With world-renowned piano virtuoso Simon Tedeschi
World-renowned piano virtuoso north shore-born Simon Tedeschi comes to Sydney’s North Shore on Sunday Nov 1

Plus vocal and instrumental favourites from the classic Jewish liturgical repertoire in exquisite all-new arrangements by Dr Joseph Toltz,
all performed by Cantor Zvi Teichtahl and a piano and string quintet led by Benjamin Adler.
Founded in 1940, North Shore was the first synagogue in the north of Sydney, and is still one of the city’s largest.
