Seascapes & Pictures with Strathfield Symphony
Strathfield Symphony’s premiere concert for 2015 celebrates the power of music to evoke images with two of the greatest symphonic programme works ever written. Featuring Debussy’s La Mer and Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition audiences are invited to be carried away by the sound-pictures of these two great composers.

Debussy completed La Mer (The Sea), while staying on the channel coast. The musical “sketches” that make up the movements of the work include From Dawn to Midday on the Sea, Play of the Waves and Dialogue Between Wind and Waves. The great pianist, Sviatoslav Richter, underlines their impressionistic force, calling the music “..a miracle of natural reproduction; no, even more than that, sheer magic!”

Mussorgsky’s fantasy tour of the works of a favorite artist, his friend Viktor Hartmann, written in memoriam, promenades through a gallery, pausing to reflect on ten of Hartmann’s works. Based variously on paintings and sketches, 6 of the works that inspired the music have survived. These include a Ballet of Unhatched Chicks in their Shells, based on a design for theatre costumes, Catacombs, based on a sketch of a visit to the Paris Catacombs and The Great Gate of Kiev, based on a design for a city gate. Mussorgsky’s music has made Hartmann’s ideas, sketches and designs concrete, bringing them to life in a way Hartmann could never have aspired to on his own.

Following an acclaimed 2014 Season featuring Mahler’s Song of the Earth and a theatrical arrangement of Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Strathfield Symphony invites audiences to join us on a very special musical journey for 2015 featuring Dvorak’s Symphony No.7, Sibelius’ Symphony No.5, Stravinsky’s Petrushka and a Double Bass concerto from a very special soloist.

The hit musical comes to the Bryan Brown Theatre in Bankstown for 8 performances 20-20 March.

Born in a 120-seat Chicago theatre in 1971, the nostalgic '50s rock'n'roll musical went on to play to sold-out houses all over the world before being immortalised in the 1978 film starring John Travolta and Australia’s own Olivia Newton-John.

In a quiet neighbourhood on a dangerously stormy night, brash insurance salesman Henry Crumb invades the home of the reclusive Ernest and his mysterious companion Myra. Although Ernest seems like the perfect patsy, Henry's sales-pitch doesn't go as planned and the evening soon takes a strange and unsettling turn.

Red line Productions is proud to announce the long awaited revival of Marshall Napier's classic Freak Winds, one of the most celebrated Australian plays in recent years. This gothic thriller is returning to its original home at the Old Fitzroy Theatre where it first saw life over a decade ago (before going on to a number of highly successful international productions).

As in the acclaimed original, Marshall Napier (All My Sons, Cat On a Hot Tin Roof, Love Child, The Moodys) is on board to act and direct, and will be joined by Anna Bamford (Wonderland) and Ben O’Toole (Love Child, The Water Diviner, Mojo).
