The Explorers Club - Antarctica

Event Date: 24/09/2014, 08:30 pm

Sold-out shows and rave reviews - not to be missed!
Songs, stories and images from the Heroic Age:
The Explorers Club: Antarctica

Following an epic year of sold-out shows and rave reviews, Kiwi alt-folksters Bond Street Bridge
are set to melt hearts in the Australian premiere of The Explorers Club: Antarctica as part of Sydney Fringe.

The show, which plays 24-26 September at the Newsagency in Marrickville,
marks 100 years since Shackleton’s celebrated Endurance expedition departed for Antarctica.
Using spoken-word storytelling, original folk songs, heritage images and new illustrations,
the band bring the tales of Scott, Shackleton, and the heroic age of Antarctic exploration to life
in an award-winning production critics have called 'a perfect evening of music.'

This double-pass is for the given days only.

Desperately Young At Heart - Quick Tix

Event Date: 23/09/2014, 06:00 pm

Outrageously original musical comedy cabaret
Tickets to the Gala Opening Night!

The imposing frame of 6 foot 6 inch operatic baritone Robert Hofmann will channel (or is that Chanel?)
a spectacular array of hilarious characters – most of them in frocks… and some in 4 inch heels.
The show is DESPARATELY YOUNG AT HEART, and it makes its
Sydney premiere after an award-winning season at Perth Fringe World.

The hit show features (among other colourful characters) an Irish nun, a ‘gifted’ church musician
and a sexually-frustrated German relationship counsellor: all young at heart, all desperate…
and all comic alter egos of singer Robert Hofmann in slick quick-change costumes by Cherie Hewson.
Plus the magic fingers of Tommaso Pollio at the piano with direction by the legendary Stuart Maunder.

Winner of the Cabaret Award WA at Perth Fringe World, Hofmann’s sensational tour-de-force plays at New Theatre, Newtown from Tues 23 to Sat 27 September (before heading to Melbourne Fringe).

He's a good man. He just has bad habits...
From Two Peas, the team behind the Old 505's inaugural subscription season production, We're Bastards, comes Jennifer Forever - a new play by Tara Clark and starring Dominic McDonald and Gemma Scoble.

MAN: I want to ask you a question. Come here.
GIRL: That's not a question, now is it?
MAN: The question will come, when you get here.

He's a good man; he just has bad habits.
Or are they even bad to begin with? Perhaps society just has its definitions all wrong.

She doesn't like to make assumptions. She's exactly what he needs, but she can't go on being that forever.
Where exactly is the line between good and bad? And who draws those lines to begin with?

Jennifer Forever plays from September 17 - 28, Wednesday to Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 7pm.

NO EXIT BY JEAN-PAUL SARTRE

Event Date: 19/09/2014, 08:00 pm

Winner Nobel Prize Literature
Jean-Paul Sartre is a Nobel Prize winner in Literature. Sartre’s existential classic, No Exit is cleverly written with humor and wit, about three strangers crossing paths in the afterlife while awaiting their ultimate fate. We explore the private conversations and confessions of the characters locked together for eternity. “L’enfer, c’est les autres”, “Hell is other people”.

Two women and one man are locked up together for eternity in one hideous room in hell. The windows are bricked up; there are no mirrors; the electric lights can never be turned off; and there is no exit. The irony of this hell is that its torture is not of the rack and fire, but of the burning humiliation of each soul as it is stripped of its pretenses by the cruel curiosity of the damned. Here the soul is shorn of secrecy, and even the blackest deeds are mercilessly exposed to the fierce light of hell. It is an eternal torment.

No Exit was published in 1944 and was also adapted for television in 1964 by the BBC, starring Harold Pinter and again in 1985 starring Omar Sharif.
