SWEENEY TODD

Event Date: 04/12/2014, 07:30 pm

The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
SWEENEY TODD
BOOK BY HUGH WHEELER
MUSIC & LYRICS BY STEPHEN SONDHEIM

“Dark, nightmarish and thrilling, a masterpiece”
The Telegraph (UK)

Sweeney Todd has long been on New Theatre’s wish-list, so we’re really excited that it’s coming to our stage as the last production for our 2014 season. Sydney is in the midst of a surge of creativity when it comes to independently produced musicals, with companies such as The Hayes Theatre Co, Luckiest Productions, Wooden Horse and Squabbalogic bringing to life a treasure trove of riskier, less frequently produced work and diversifying the theatrical landscape.

The talented ensemble includes recent AIM Music Theatre graduate Erin Bogart, Briony Burnes, Jamie Collette (Privates on Parade), Daisy Cousens, Carl Olsen and Steven Richie (Fiddler on the Roof featuring Topol, Melbourne).

Join Triple J Breakfast's Matt Okine for a Christmas Comedy Gala!
Thinking of Christmas? It's almost that time of year, you know? Do you have plans for Christmas drinks with colleagues, family and friends yet? Well... now you do.

We have an amazing Christmas Comedy Gala planned for you on Tuesday 2 December at the original home of comedy - the Harold Park Hotel!

Your headline act is one of the biggest new comedy stars in the country - the co-host of Triple J Breakfast, Matt Okine!

Matt is the sharpest, quickest and most versatile comedic performer in the business. He is a comedian, Emcee, actor, rapper and media star. Matt is a multiple award winner, including Best New Comer at the 2012 Melbourne International Comedy Festival. He was also nominated for one of the biggest gongs on the planet - Best Newcomer at the 2013 Edinburgh Comedy Festival. He has been all over your TV in recent years, on shows including; 'It's A Date', 'Dirty Laundry Live', 'Can Of Worms' and 'Thursday FC'. We are thrilled to have him at The Laugh Stand for Christmas.

Your Emcee is another hard working, rising professional - Ben Darsow (WA). "A champion - seriously funny" (Adelaide Advertiser).

Joining Matt and Ben is local favourite JJ Mullard (UK) and rising stars Craig Annis (Star FM), Cyrus Beyzan, Marty Morgan, Lester Diamond and David McNevin!

Learn Social Mandarin Over Speed Network...

Event Date: 27/11/2014, 07:30 pm

Unique experiential learning of Mandarin & Chinese culture
This is a structured experiential Mandarin Program where you enjoy networking with like minded people and learn:

• Functional dialogues in Mandarin including the purchase of beverage and food

Join the revolutionary new Mandarin program 'ChineseWize' where you learn in the real world rather than a simulation environment that is the traditional classroom. We will have these speed networking sessions in bars, cafes, teahouses or wherever we fancy.

These real-life experiential classes are designed to accelerate your mastery of Chinese conversational skills and cultural savviness. Suitable for beginners to intermediate learners - you will learn according to your level.

The program including prior reading materials is valued at $80/person. The first hour is facilitated by an experienced Mandarin teacher. The second hour is free practice.

Australian Concert Tour 2014
Hosted by De Rucci and presented by Ausfeng

Sydney Opera House Concert Hall
– Thursday 27 November 7.30pm

Exploring the Soul of Chinese Culture through Folk Music
After a successful tour in Australia last year, the China Conservatory Orchestra (CCO) will make their second tour to Australia performing in the Concert Hall, Sydney Opera House on Thursday 27 November. The CCO will perform with Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

Established in 1964, CCO is acclaimed to be the most devoted and professional folk music orchestra in China. The performance of the orchestra is unique in that it takes its roots from the traditional Chinese folk and opera music allowing the charm of the oriental mystery to blend into the modern folk music style.

Proudly led by the laureate conductor Maestro Kuan Naichung, the concert will feature the renowned Erhu soloist, Song Fei, the Queen of Chinese folk music. Erhu is a traditional string instrument known as the ‘Chinese violin’. It was developed during the Tang Dynasty and has been played for more than two thousand years. The concert will also highlight award-winning musicians Song Fei and percussionist Wang Yidong. Their mastery of Chinese folk music will bring the diverse and fascinating cultural heritage of China to Australian audiences.

CCO features the talents of the China Conservatory. From the Concert Hall of National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing to the Golden Hall in Vienna, CCO has travelled far and wide to transport the charm of Chinese folk music.
