Secret Bridesmaids Business

Event Date: 12/11/2022, 07:30 am

Hunters Hill Theatre presents Secret Bridesmaids Business
It’s the night before Meg’s wedding. While the bride prepares for the biggest day of her life and her mum Colleen fusses over ribbons and shoe fabrics, Meg’s bridesmaids, Lucy and Angela, stumble upon some information that has the potential to shatter Meg’s dream. Should they tell or not tell?
In the hilarious yet painful push and pull that follows, Lucy and Angela discover that sometimes there is no right answer when it comes to doing what’s best for your friend.
Elizabeth Coleman’s delightful characters bring this seriously funny play to life.
Never far from reality, “Secret Bridesmaids’ Business” exposes the insanity that can be created as the wedding juggernaut threatens to swerve out of control.
Marriage may be a wonderful thing, but after a night like this, well, could it really be worth it.

HERCULES: THE PANTO

Event Date: 11/11/2022, 07:30 pm

November Fun for Sydney
Hercules: the Panto comes to Lane Cove Theatre Company’s Performance Space in Longueville from 11 November.

Bestowed with superhuman strength, a young mortal named Hercules sets out to prove himself a hero in the eyes of his father, the great god Zeus.
Hercules is tricked by the hot-headed villain, Hades, who is secretly plotting to take over Mount Olympus. Hercules must choose between his legendary strength and his true love Megara.
Only by learning a valuable lesson - that it’s not the size of your strength that counts but the strength of your heart - will Hercules save Mount Olympus and be proclaimed a hero.

Let LCTC’s young players transport you to Athens, to the theatre of Dionysus, in a pantomime that promises to have you wide-eyed with thrills,
rolling over in fits of laughter, tapping your toes and humming along to catchy tunes, both new and timeless!
Written by 20-year Lane Cove Theatre Company legend Sarah Jamari Edwards – honorary life member and veteran of 15 shows in every possible capacity, both front of stage and behind the scenes –

musically directed by super-experienced (yet alarmingly young!) talent Aisha Herbert and directed by children’s show specialist Cameron Farnham (assisted by Alexei Belchenko),
Hercules stars a 25-strong cast of gifted local youth performers.

A classic tale with a healthy dose of twists and turns, this story is unlike any version of Hercules that you have ever seen or heard before. Will Hercules find his true love? Will Medusa run a successful hair styling business? Will the King’s daughter marry a pop star? Confused? Come along and see HERCULES, The Panto, and all will be revealed!

Bach Akademie Australia crowns an epic 2022 concert season in Chatswood
As audiences return to the concert halls after a profoundly challenging two years,
Bach Akademie Australia (BAA) and its redoubtable Artistic Director, violin virtuoso Madeleine Easton, present Grazie in Grazia:
two November concerts dedicated to the spirit of thanksgiving - at Our Lady of Dolours, Chatswood and City Recital Hall, Angel Place.

The program marks a journey from Italy to Germany with works by Monteverdi, Marini, Merula, Gabrieli, Schütz and - of course - the celestial, immortal Johann Sebastian Bach.

“All of us have been through indescribable hardships over the last two years,” says Madeleine, “for each of us different but no less profound.
Upon reflection, it is clear that being grateful for what we have here and now, has helped sustain us through the pandemic.”

It is in this spirit that BAA presents Claudio Monteverdi’s Mass of Thanksgiving, written to give thanks after the great plague of 1631.
Also featured is Monteverdi’s celebrated student Heinrich Schütz whose life was also deeply affected by plague and war,
and who became one of J.S. Bach’s greatest inspirations and mentors.
The powerful climax is Bach’s greatest and most joyful Christmas Cantata BWV 63 ‘Christen, ätzet diesen Tag’,
remembering that - in Madeleine’s words “After all is said and done - it is joy that music brings us.
And there’s none better than J.S. Bach to take us out of the darkness and into the light.”

NEW PLAY CELEBRATES CENTENARY OF D.H. LAWRENCE’S TIME IN AUSTRALIA
It’s an oft-forgotten historical fact that D.H. Lawrence came to Australia in 1922.
Now, on the 100th anniversary of the visit of that eminent English novelist, comes a new play which explores and celebrates the events, characters & ideas related to that visit.

Somewhere South by Geoffrey Sykes, playing at Chippen Street Theatre from 3 November, uses a thrilling mix of styles - including drama, magic realism, verse, movement and narration - to capture Lawrence’s ideas and characters, as well as his encounters with political leaders.
Lawrence lived in Sydney and also the NSW South Coast village of Thirroul, where his neighbours were characterised as the flamboyant Jack and Victoria in his fiction.

In Somewhere South he also meets the dramatized characters of ‘Kangaroo’ and ‘Struthers’, who tick off ideas and polarities of public life that are still relevant today.

By his own account, including in the book Kangaroo, which he wrote during that time - and which this play draws from -
Lawrence was much transformed by his experience of the beauty in the ocean bush and mountains of the south coast.
His relationship with his wife Frieda was also deeply affected and changed by the visit. Then there is also the matter of his sudden, largely inexplicable, departure.
