SWEENEY TODD will be presented for six shows only in both Sydney and Melbourne from 13 to 23 June to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler’s ground-breaking musical thriller that transports audiences into the atmospheric underbelly of 19th century London.

Exiled barber Sweeney Todd will be played by quintessential leading man ANTHONY WARLOW and the incomparable GINA RILEY plays the tragi-comic role of pie-maker Mrs. Lovett. With soaring arias of vengeance and yearning, the darkly-comic SWEENEY TODD: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street combines the vocal power and sweep of opera with the aching humanity of musical theatre.

The story, inspired by a tale serialised in a Penny Dreadful in 1846-47, centres on the unjustly exiled barber who returns to London seeking vengeance against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. The road to revenge leads to Mrs Lovett, the proprietor of a failing pie shop, above which, he opens a new barber shop. Desperate times lead Sweeney Todd to plot diabolical schemes against those who have wronged him.

Watch the plot unravel at the hands of this manipulative, malevolent, man-eating mastermind.

Murder, She Sang stars emerging musical theatre performer Caitlin Rose. Caitlin has previously delighted Sydney audiences in Little Triangle’s critically acclaimed productions of Sunday in the Park with George and Merrily We Roll Along. She featured in ATYP’s award-winning production of Spring Awakening and was a 2018 Semi-Finalist in the Rob Guest Endowment Awards. In September, Caitlin will feature in Little Triangle’s NINE as Carla Albanese.

Established in early 2017, Little Triangle aims to present underperformed theatrical productions that challenge audiences and performers alike at a low price point – in the hopes to expand, educate and diversify the music theatre audience base, especially amongst young people.

CASTLE HILL PLAYERS present LEADING LADIES – by Ken Ludwig
In choosing his play for the 2019 season, Stephen said:
“I was looking for a stage play version of ‘Some Like It Hot’ but only found a 1970s musical called ‘Sugar’.
I gave up and looked at some Ken Ludwig’s: Moon over Buffalo and Leading Ladies.
Amazingly enough when I read the script for Leading Ladies it seemed to be (shamelessly) just what I was looking for in the first place. I thought this would be an ideal play for Castle Hill Players and its audience.”

Leading Ladies follows two hapless English actors, Leo & Jack, down on their luck and traveling through Amish country, performing in community halls.
The money has dried up, there’s no work for them in sight and all seems lost.
Then Leo reads about a dear old lady whose dying wish is to bequeath her fortune to her two long lost nephews who, by amazing coincidence, grew up in England! After finally convincing Jack this is a great idea, the two head off to York, Pennsylvania,
only to learn the ‘nephews’ are actually nieces! No problem… Jack and Leo are actors!

Audiences will love ‘Maxine’ and ‘Stephanie’ as they present themselves to the York locals.
Romantic entanglements and laughs aplenty are on the bill when Castle Hill Players present
the latest farce from Ken Ludwig, author of Lend Me a Tenor, Shakespeare in Hollywood and The Game’s Afoot.

The Sydney Fair

This year, the Fair will feature over 60 exhibitors with more than 5,000 treasured items including an exclusive range of vintage fashion, antiques, jewellery, arts and rare objects.

Highlights include a meticulously curated collection of iconic movie costumes from actor and collector Jermel Nakia (better known for his role as young William on hit TV series This Is Us), and a range of vintage Scandinavian and revered George Jensen jewellery from fine jewellery expert, Christopher Becker.

The History of the Handbag exhibition will also make its debut as a retrospective of iconic handbags from the last 100 years, from the ornately decorated flapper bags of the 1920s through to today’s most highly sought designer bags.

A celebration of masculine beauty and stupidity in concert: Newcastle 31 May
The Spookies are taking a good hard look at themselves in the (very wide) mirror and it’s a little hard to tell whether they like what they see.
After all, it’s been 18 years of being the thinking person’s mancrumpet - musically speaking - and part of the skill-set is inscrutability.
Or is it blithering incomprehensibility? So, yes, the hats are there, the sphinx-like vastness, the facial crevices, the beard topiary…
But is that crumbling decrepitude they are revealing or a magnificent descent into the vast bittersweetness of knowing this life for what it is?

These questions are more than appropriate, because the Spooky Men have just recorded their seventh album, Welcome to the Second Half which will nearly be ready for this performance.
It’s a collection which explores yet more corners of the great spooky room, including baggage carousels at the airport the fine art of building pyramids, and - more poignantly - what it’s like to be closer to the end than to the start.
Whether they will stop before they are done, or whether they are done before they stop, the musical exploration of all this unknowingness will be, as always, a very great pleasure. Sit back and enjoy the ride!
Armed only with their voices, The Spooky Men's Chorale commentates on the absurdity and grandeur of the modern male.
Sometimes mighty, sometimes foolish, sometimes blissfully tender-hearted, the Spooky Men strike a deeply human chord.
Formed in the Blue Mountains of NSW in 2001 by Christchurch-born spookmeister Stephen Taberner,
the Spooky Men soon attracted attention with a judicious combination of Georgian table songs, pindrop beautiful ballads, highly inappropriate covers, and immaculate man anthems like “Don’t Stand Between a Man and his Tool”, and “We Are Not a Men’s Group” - all of which amounted to a manifesto for the new breed of man: happily suspended between thug and wimp.
