Acacia Quartet with guest artist Emile Cantor, viola
International viola soloist Emile Cantor returns to Australia to join Acacia Quartet for national tour,
featuring a program of viola quintets by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Nick Wales and Antonin Dvorak.

The North Sydney concert by the thrice ARIA Award-nominated ensemble opens with Mozart's exquisite String Quintet in G minor K516, followed by Boomi's Ray by Australian composer Nick Wales. Closing this mouth-watering concert is Dvorak’s joyful String Quartet in E flat major Op 97.
Mozart’s G minor quintet was written during the final days of his father’s terminal illness and was completed just 12 days before Leopold’s death. Nick Wales is best known for his collaborations, notably with Sarah Blasko and the Sydney Dance Company.
Boomi’s Ray is a memorial, written to be played at the funeral of a friend.
Dvorák composed his E flat String Quintet during his summer vacation in Spillville, Iowa (which had a large Czech population) in 1893. Written around the same time as his famous ‘American’ quartet, it is believed to be a response to his witnessing the joyful 400th anniversary celebrations of Columbus’ arrival in the New World.

Eight of the most promising young singers from Australia and New Zealand will perform accompanied by the North Sydney Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Steven Hillinger, in The Sydney Eisteddfod Opera Scholarship Final.

One of the most coveted awards for young opera singers, it has launched the careers of countless Australian opera singers since it began in 1933. This event launched the career of Dame Joan Sutherland in 1949, and 84 years on, its winners and finalists continue to enrich world opera. Many recent winners are now performing with leading opera houses around the world, with Stacey Alleaume, Pene Pati and Stuart Skelton leading the way.
This feast of opera and music is an event no genuine opera lover should miss.

A crack team of care bots attend to her every need. They even provide the entertainment. How convenient!

The Doc will use any technological means to cure the next big disease that she is increasingly obsessed with diagnosing.
Nursie, the last of the human carers, struggles with the technological takeover and determines what Pippie really needs is not another robot.

Pippie has her own secrets though. In this medical wonderland of technological advancement, is she really sick or is she just… dying?

Roomba Nation plays at the Old 505 Theatre in Newtown from 4-21 July.
Conceived by Alison Bennett and Directed by Felicity Nicol, it stars Bennett as Pippie, Nick O’Regan as Nursie and Kate Walder as Doc.
David Kirkpatrick is Hurrah Hurrah’s multi-disciplinary artist and creator of the ‘bots’ with writing associate Moreblessing Maturure.

When he finally gets to gaol, he finds that someone else has been arrested in his place – someone who was at his house and in his dressing gown the previous evening!

The Australian premiere of The Man In The Attic written by one of Australia’s most internationally-produced playwrights will be staged at the Eternity Playhouse in Darlinghurst, from Thursday 5 to Sunday 22 July 2018.

The Man in the Attic is the incredible, true story of a Jew who is hidden by a German couple during the Holocaust, but when the War ends, is led to believe that the War had been won... by the Nazis.

Locked inside their attic for his ‘protection’, the Jew has no way of knowing and continues his trade as a jeweller and watch-maker, for the profit of the couple. But as the husband overplays his hand and the wife becomes trapped in a conflict between greed and humanity, the Jew realises that something has changed...
