The Spooky Mens Chorale
Event Date: 10/02/2019, 02:30 pm
Joyous, hilarious and deeply human choral mischief!
Based on the twin pillars of grand foolishness and the quest for the perfect subwoofer-rattling boofchord,
the Spooky Men seek to commentate on the absurdity and grandeur of the modern male
- armed only with their voices, a sly collection of hats and facial hair, and a twinkle in the eye!
Their audiences are invited to first joyously experience a wall of mansound, then laugh stupidly, then venture into areas of great tenderness.
Not so much comedic as hilarious, not so much shimmeringly perfect as pleasingly and deeply human.
Formed in 2001 by spookmeister Stephen Taberner, the Spooky Men’s Chorale emerged from the Blue Mountains of NSW,
armed with no more than their voices, a nice line in deadpan and an ill-matched set of hats.
A judicious combination of Georgian table songs, pindrop beautiful ballads, highly inappropriate covers,
and immaculate man anthems like “Don’t stand between a man and his tool” and “We Are Not a Men’s Group”
saw the Spooks attract audiences in Australia and internationally.
Now in middle age, the Spooky Men are more masters of their territory than ever before.
For this delicious Prelude in Tea appearance, they will delicately garnish their much-loved black-catalogue
with further incursions into beauty and stupidity, somewhat like a chocolate muffin with extra bits of chocolate in it.
You must see them, really you must!
A Prelude in Tea is a Sunday afternoon concert series featuring a scrumptious afternoon tea served from 2:30
followed by a 3:30 concert performed by some of Australia’s best and most exciting small ensembles.
With the Streeton Trio, the Flinders Quartet, The Seraphim Trio and more, A Prelude in Tea concert is the perfect Sunday afternoon out!
